I wouldn't call this a race crime, implying as it does that Zimmerman shot the victim because he was black. Although, I do believe he perceived him as more of a threat because of his colour, which does bring the issue of race into the equation. But then US government stats indicate that black men do commit substantively more crimes than whites. In one report from the Government of Connecticut it states: "This data indicates that the arrest rate for blacks for murder was 10 to 15 times as high as for whites, five to six times the rate for whites for sexual assault, eight to nine times as high for robbery, four to five times as high for aggravated assault, and between two to three times as high for burglary." www.cga.ct.gov/2008/rpt/2008-R-0008.htmThese are also interesting points made by a US Congressman, in regard to the shooting, and the subsequent reward offered by the New Black Panthers for Zimmerman's capture. "Rep. Allen West, who has previously decried the police “mishandling” of the Trayvon Martin shooting as an “outrage” and called for a Justice Department investigation, on Wednesday found himself wondering why that very same Justice Department isn’t treating the New Black Panther Party’s bounty for the man who shot Martin as a “hate crime." www.texasinsider.org/?p=60347It's impossible to understand why someone of Zimmerman's size, and he was also armed, felt so intimidated by one much smaller teenager. I can't believe that the victim attacked him. A police video shows Zimmerman at the time of his arrest, and he doesn't appear to have any facial injuries, etc. This is a terrible tragedy. I feel so sorry for the parents of the slain teenager. I can't imagine how they must be feeling right now. There's nothing more precious than a son.

Think about it, if he hadn't had a mark on him wouldn't the cops have arrested him? As it is they must have believed his story.

Yeah, well Zimmerman's father is a retired judge, that *may* have something to do with it.

There are plenty of cases where someone has walked even though many involved in the investigation thought he should go to prison. Sometimes there are too many different angles to the incident, making both the shooter and the one who got shot at fault to some degree. The whole story has not been told yet, but there are forces at work, politics, race-baiting, and the upcoming election that are driving this whole case and making it out to be a lot more than what it really is. The idea that black men are being slaughtered by white men is simply not true. For every black man shot by a white man, there are a thousand black men killed by other black men.
We now learn (if it’s true) that the Hispanic man had lost the black teen and had gone back to his car when the teen attacked him there. This means the teen was the aggressor, since the first altercation was not violent at all. The Hispanic man followed him and said some things, but no punches were traded between them. We do not know what is true, and may never know, but if the teen did go after him and attacked after the shooter had already left him alone, then the case changes and is at least muddled to some degree as to who was the aggressor. The problem is, the media and the race-baiters will never accept anything but imprisonment for this man now that a lot of outright lies and propaganda have been spread by the race pimps and the news media.
I knew a woman whose first fiancé was murdered, and the detectives told her flat out that they knew who did it but could not prove it in a court of law. No one was ever arrested for the murder. But you know what else never happened? There were no race pimps screaming “No justice, no peace!” either. Here, the shooter is known, but the legal matters that prescribe whether or not he has committed murder are not so easy, and are certainly not to be left to a racist mob’s street justice.

Time and again in this case, information released by the media has turned out to be either a total lie or propaganda designed to drum up emotion about racism that may not even be involved in the case at all, except on the part of the race pimps.
We were told the shooter is white, when he is Hispanic.
We were told there is a recording of the shooter using racial insults, when it came out later that is not true. He says “fing punks,” not anything racial.
We are shown a police video they claim shows no injuries to the shooter, but later we are shown the rest of the video that plainly shows injuries.
We are told there is a recording of the shooting victim screaming for help, but later we are told there was a witness who said it was the shooter who was screaming for help while he was on his back on the ground with the victim on top beating him.
We are shown a photo of the deceased that is many years old when he was about 14, but we later learn he was much older when killed and had a mouth full of gold teeth and a few gang tattoos. He was also over six feet tall according some reports, certainly no little boy.
We were told of the shooter being a cop want-a-be and that he made way too many calls to the police while on community patrol as a neighborhood watch member about nothing, and that he had a criminal record. This, too, later turned out to be false or at least exaggerated. We were also shown a police photo of him when he was arrested for assaulting a police officer, but later more recent photos came to light that made him appear a lot less like a criminal. We also found out later that the charges were dropped.
We also later learn the victim, too, had a record and had many problems in school and had been suspended.
Some or all of this may be false, as so much has already been proven to be. The point is, we do not know what the truth is yet. We do know the media has been playing the public like a fiddle, and we know the race pimps are on this for their own gain.

You make excellent and very valid points, John. When the media are in a feeding frenzy, such as now, truth flies out the window. Basically, they'll say anything in order to keep the momentum going. They don't care who gets hurt in the process. As you say, no one knows what happened that night. But it seems infeasible to me that Zimmerman would have shot this guy merely because he was black, and it was the first time he'd seen him in the neighbourhood. This just doesn't make sense. Also, Zimmerman is clearly Hispanic. I was surprised when I learned his father was white. Yet the media, and other interested parties, want him to be white in order to play the race card for all its worth. Pretty despicable.

Zimmerman has fled Florida. He is no longer in contact with his attorneys, and has launched his own website to solicit funds. www.therealgeorgezimmerman.com/

Corey said the decision to bring charges was based on the facts and the law, declaring: "We do not prosecute by public pressure or by petition."
