As a self-published novelist, I am looking for a new editor. I have found several recommended by Preditors & Editors, and two are members of Editorial Freelancers Association. They generally want two cents per word. For my longer novels, this will be over $2,000, but my novels sell well, and I can afford it. I just want the job done right. The one I have used in the past charged a lot less and was fast, but she left typos in the ms. I am wondering what else I can do to check them out before endangering my hard-earned dollars. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried this site, John? And you know when it comes to editing, it's something of a question mark. I'm thinking about the typos etc. I see in books by the major publishing houses. www.book-editing.com/

Hello John. This is the editor I use. She is a perfectionist. I would recommend her to anyone. www.book-editing-service.com/You can submit a free sample to see if you are happy with her work.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I think I found a good editor. My shortest novel will cost me $550 or so. I was not really price shopping but looking to make sure I got a real editor and not a fraud. This one has written three novels and belongs to many organizations, she is even the president of a writers’ organization. I think she’s the real thing. First opening is many weeks away, but I hope to be in line to have her do my other novels after she’s through with the first one.

I forgot to add she is recommended by P&E. If she works out, I will let you know so others can have reassurance when they look for an editor. It’s a sea of sharks out there, and you must be careful.
