My name is Jim and I have been writing for many years but haven't made the effort to seek publication until now. Most of my early work has been destroyed in fits of despair over inferior story lines. When Calliope finally paid me a visit the work got much better and thankfully, she has remained with me.
I work mainly in short spec. fiction, sci. fiction and fantasy but I have an aversion to sword and sorcery which has become so hackneyed that it is not worth wasting the ink and candle to produce. As a result, my efforts have turned to alternative mythologies. There is nothing new under the sun but at least it's not another magical boarding school.

"I have an aversion to sword and sorcery which has become so hackneyed that it is not worth wasting the ink and candle to produce..." Ouch! Well err, As a fantasy writer that stings but, to each their own I guess. I dislike the wave wand poof it happens with no rhyme or reason attached but that is part of the fun. I do try to attach limitations on my magic, no one character is all powerful IDK makes it interesting if nothing else. Mythology is wild! Love using some of the old myths to enhance a piece. Can't wait to see what you have brewing! ~BL~

Welcome Jim, glad to have you here.
I have only read two fantasy story lines and enjoyed them both. (I doubt I would be into the Harry Potter stuff)
The Belgariad and Mallorean by David Eddings.
The Forgotten Realms by R.A. Salvatore. About a dark elf.
Thought they were both very well done. The only problem I had with the second one is that by the end of each book one of the main characters supposedly died, then came back in the following. That got old and predictable.

Hmm, I have yet to read that series but now I may just skip it.
I remember when "Return of the Blue Lagoon" came out and I was ticked that the first movie ended with the MC's being alive, and the second one starts off they are dead! Ugh. Inconsistencies in plots just kill the mood for me.
