I received this in a mass emailing. What do you think? Are things really this bad in the US? BTW, Edinburgh is my home town and it's been mispelt. But I didn't correct it, choosing to leave every word unedited.

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinborough, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the
beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

· From bondage to spiritual faith;

· From spiritual faith to great courage;

· From courage to liberty;

· From liberty to abundance;

· From abundance to complacency;

· From complacency to apathy;

· From apathy to dependence;

· From dependence back into bondage."

It doesn't hurt to read this several times.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, pointed out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Obama: 19 McCain: 29

Square miles of land won by:
Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of
democracy, some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal
invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to
the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.
If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

This is truly scary! Of course we (the USA) are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic. Someone should point this out to Obama. Of course we know he and too many others pay little attention to The Constitution. There couldn't be more at stake than on Nov 2012. "

ROFL this reminds me of the old Disney WWII war propaganda... Remember the 40's Disney cartoon Donald Duck's nightmare and the song "Der Fuehrer's Face" all these candidates are running around calling one-another the next Hitler (or so it seems) I do wish they would get over themselves!!!

However, I have to agree with the assessment that the US is in huge trouble. But, not because we are a democratic state, no it is rather do to the fact that and I quote "We're not a democracy. It's a terrible misunderstanding and a slander to the idea of democracy to call us that. In reality, we're a plutocracy: a government by the wealthy." Ramsey Clark , former U.S. Attorney General

However, Bob Dylan sums things up nicely for us with this gem "Democracy don't rule the world, You'd better get that in your head; This world is ruled by violence, But I guess that's better left unsaid."

In the words of one of our greatest leaders, "Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide."

It's difficult to believe that the US may not always be the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth. It always has been in our lifetime. Yet when you consider what happened to other world powers -- it's not really so long ago that the sun never set on the British Empire...

Fifty-one percent of every US household now receives a check of some kind from the government. In many cities like Chicago, one out of three people who work, work for the city. Only 2.5% of the entire federal budget actually goes to run the constitutional government (the three branches and federal agencies, many of which are actually not constitutional themselves), and it’s been that way for many decades. Under Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton 15% of the budget went to defense. Under JFK, it was over 40%. Under Obama, it’s 19% with another 3% going to the VA. Almost all that is left goes to Social programs and interest on the national debt. The WWII generation did not just get back many many times what they paid in all taxes combined in their life, they got back many times what they made in their life, yet those still left of that generation are complaining that they are under benefited. But wait, a new generation is just now retiring, and they will show the leechingest generation how it’s done. There are 78 million boomers, and it is estimated they will cost taxpayers more than one million bucks each from the time they retire until they die.

Socialism in any form and in any amount, has never worked anywhere on the face of the Earth. Europe is broke and so is America, because of Socialism. Socialism cuts the spine out of people like filleting a fish, and allows people to be perpetual children. James Madison wrote the Constitution over many years before the end of the American Revolution and others joined in the debate over what to put in it. He also wrote that charity is no legislative duty of government. We need a separation of charity and state much stronger than any separation of church and state. Since government is force, it cannot possibly be charitable. Force is not charity, it is armed robbery. Since all social programs must be funded through the force of taxation, to say that every American deserves a certain minimum level of standard of living, including healthcare and retirement, food, housing, utilities, etc, no matter how lazy, stupid, lowdown and useless they may be, is to say you believe one person has the right to own a portion of another person’s life. Taxation is the taking of a person’s life a slice at a time, tax bill by tax bill. It is slavery, different from black slavery only in degree but not in kind. Since only about 25% of the federal budget can be called constitutional, the other 75% of federal taxes is nothing but slavery so Democrats can buy votes from leeches. Since FDR, all national elections have been auctions on future stolen goods. “Vote for me and I’ll rob your neighbor even more, so you can get more free things at others’ expense.”

A pure democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for lunch or two Kennedys and a woman deciding who to rape. You can say a pure democracy is 75% of voters who pay less in taxes than the federal government spends on them deciding to rob the other 25% (the 25% that actually pays more taxes than they have spent on them by the federal government) even more than before. Our Constitution was designed to prevent legalized plunder through the vote, but FDR destroyed any pretense of a constitutionally limited federal government and unleashed pure democracy on America. What we have today is the result.

I am going to agree and disagree with you john.

Religion and state should never mix. The rest is true, crackheads and people whom insist on spitting out kids and depending on tax $ to take care of everything have ruined this country.

Does that mean we should end it not really, but there should be some much stricter controls in place. If you are capable of woking... IE you have working arms, legs, or a combo of the two Job training should be mandated. As should drug testing and birth control while on public assistance.

Just my two cents.

Well, I didn’t mean that the separation between church and state should be removed, but that the separation of charity and state should be even stronger than any separation of church and state.

I am surprised that you agree with the rest. Most Americans draw their line at what they consider to be a comfortable place. What I mean is many “conservatives” will tell you they do not agree with welfare and food stamps, but think Social Security is just fine. Why? Because they have never needed welfare and food stamps, but know they will never work hard enough or live frugally enough to save for old age. They draw their line on Socialism at their own comfort level. This means they are hypocrites. One social program is just as unconstitutional as the other; all are forms of slavery through taxation.

Well the way I see it SS is not going to be around when I retire, So I depend on me and me alone to make it work.

Now I understand that those who have retired already had made SS part of their retirement plan. So taking it away from them would be wrong. However I see nothing wrong in saying "Hey look, it's not gonna happen" to the 30 something crowd.

I am all for the GOV staying really far out of my life. And I'm an independent liberal not a Conservative.

If my neighbor wants to marry someone who am I to say anything about it? We all have our own lives and points of view, these are private. And IMHO should stay that way.

People who run around trying to force their views on others ticks me off to no end.

I understand having Disability around, and even other forms of public assistance. But I don't understand why, if someone on these programs can't find a job... As soon as they do they get kicked off. Let them stay on long enough to get a foot hold. But, make sure they are trying to better themselves. Don't allow them to sit on their asses doing nothing popping out more people who will do exactly the same thing.

Which is why I like the new 4 yr rule. If you have not managed to get it together by then you never will... tough luck.
