I have mixed feelings about this. The Internet is a wonderful innovation when it comes to communication, and discussion. I'd hate to see it censored. Yet, the way it's been abused and misused as a means to launch witch hunts and spread lies about those we dislike has to be addressed. Reputations have been destroyed.
So it's a delicate balancing act. How do we stop the abuse, while keeping the right to freedom of expression intact? I would suggest by placing the onus on those who host the sites responsible for malicious attacks. Subject them to legal action, and much of the ugliness might stop.
The problem is, as it stands now, once something is up on a site, it's almost impossible to get the host to remove it. Sometimes there isn't even a clear cut way to contact them. This should be addressed and remedied.
