Business is cut-throat though. For instance, there's a chain store in a local mall that deliberately undercut smaller stores, and eventually put them out of business. Their staff would prowl through the mall making notes of the merchandise and prices, then go back to their own store and reduce the price of their products accordingly. I imagine this must be standard practice and all too commonplace. Now Amazon is doing much the same thing through a different medium and on a much larger scale. What goes round, comes round.

Well, I love Amazon. That said, If another company can do better, then I am all for it.
Kind of like Wal-mart. Undersell everyone, then lets see what you have.
If you are an independent, then you have to offer something different. Come up with a new idea, a better idea, and idea that sells.
Now that is capitalism! That is individualism! That is ingenuity!
Mail and virtually everything else is being replaced by the web, why not shopping.

Empires rise and fall like the tide. Fads come and go. Today it is Ebooks and shopping on-line, tomorrow who knows.
Maybe you won't even NEED the web, you can just think about it and poof! It's done.
Regardless there is one thing we all have that endures. Karma, jack that up and you might as well fade out with the rest of the washed up, worn out, and irrelevant.
So while yes Barns and Nobel might be the last big box book store, and WalMart the worlds largest chain retail spot, Amazon might have a corner of just about everything else. I can't help but wonder at what price did it success come? Do their deeds keep them awake long into the night? Do they ask forgiveness for hurting their brothers and sisters?
Only time will tell.
