In warm weather with the front door open and just the screen door on, it's not unusual to be cornered by door-to-door sales people. This happened today while I was having lunch. This is so intrusive, I have to admit I was quite rude. I said "Not interested," and shut the door in his face. I felt kind of guilty about it afterwards. But what the heck, if you let your lunch get cold while you're being polite and listening, they'll go into a long spiel trying to coerce you into buying something you neither need or want. So maybe the abrupt handling of this kind of situation really isn't such a bad idea after all. It saves everybody's time, including theirs.

Yeppers!
I hate the Jehovah witnesses... short of setting a bible on fire you can NOT get rid of them.
I am sure it is a fine religion just not one I am intrerested in. I usualy catch them comming down the walk way and pretend I am not home when they come callin...

Not only salesman at the door, kids promoting their field trips, school functions, security products, religions, etc., but also sales calls. I have put my number on a blocked list, and this has greatly reduced the numbers of calls. I do not mind so much during the day, but after about 5pm, it is annoying. I used to feel guilty about telling them to leave, hanging up, but I have changed. They came to me uninvited. I do not have to feel apologetic for their intrusion. This is also a subject of behavior I cover in my book which salesmen, and religious types, use on others. (I'm not pitching my book here, really Just look up the Asch experiment on line and you will see what I'm talking about. www.simplypsychology.org/asch-conformity.html

Just tell them you are a naturalist, and that if they want to talk to you, they can come in and do it on your terms. They actually have what is called a "Do not call" list. Tell them to put you on that. They call former members who have left "apostates" and avoid them like the plague, refusing to talk to them or even acknowledge them. That may work.

I have a DO NOT DISTURB sign on my door which is about 90 per cent effective. In summer though, with the door open and the screen door on, it's not as visible as it usually is. I recommend that anyone being driven crazy by unsolicited knocks at all hours of the day and night give it a try.

ROFL Richard, you know I would really like to get a copy of your work, it sounds like something I would dig... where is it being sold? I don't do E readers! I want a real stinking book with pages that rip and I can use it to cary my coffee! I would love to have one of those sings Lily, but our complex will not allow us to post anything outside out apartment unless it is a medical warning. I thought about typing one out that reads "warning unmedicated serial killer lives here knock at own risk" but somehow I don't think others would see the humor in it... (Rolling eyes)
