I notice we have a jackharper and a jacklawson, neither of which I am familiar.
Technically, I don't know jack. In fact, I don't know the other jack.
Language is a remarkable thing...

I notice we have a jackharper and a jacklawson, neither of which I am familiar. Technically, I don't know jack. In fact, I don't know the other jack. Language is a remarkable thing... Talking of which, Jack is such a wonderfully universal name, and loses nothing from even the most negative of connotations, such as "Jack, the Ripper." (shiver) Nobody held that against other Jacks. One of my favourite songs is "It's a strange strange world we live in Master Jack." And who could ever forget the perennial children's poem, Jack and Jill? Then there's "Jack and the beanstalk," and so many other famous, and infamous Jacks, that it's not possible to mention them all. Wiki to the rescue: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack

If your name is John you're liable to be called Jack because...wait for it...the French name for John is Jacques! Go figure.

On that, I know the feeling.
My club name is "Chico," which means 'little boy.'
I'm a weight lifter. Go figure.
It's like a fat guy being known as "slim."

My name, Jack Harper, is a pen name. It started out as an rpging forum name because the majority of my characters were male, and I am female. After that it really just stuck. I have a deceased family member whose name was Jack, and I wanted to have something in my writing name to honor him. I had another family member tell me recently that Jack could easily be short for Jackie, another female name, so it really is quite universal.
