Who stabs their newborn baby? OMG! That's the one that horrified me the most.

We need tougher laws to deal with this sort of scum.

I have a moratorium in place at our house, no news except the weather. If I watched the news every day I'd end up taking my gun and randomly taking pot shoots at idiots from my front stoop, that or just putting myself out of my misery. It is a shame what I see today, when I was a kid I knew there were bad people and bad things but it seems to have grown in numbers exponentially. Just today I opened an email from my apartment complex asking us to please ensure that we don't leave anything of value in our cars or on our patios. Which I mean yeah OK that is common sense but it seems there has been a rash of break-ins or break on's depending on the location. We live in a place where the rent is so high to keep people like that out! Nearly 2k/mo. We have 24/7 armed security on site in a gated complex. Last year I could sit on my patio till 5 am and never once think about something bad happening, they open up the complex to lower income (Sec8) families and now this... I guess I'll be moving soon. My dream is to buy about 50 acres in the middle of no place surrounded by green space that can't be built on plop a little house in the middle and just ignore 90% of the human race. But it leaves me wondering what have we done as a general population to cause this? it can't be all bad parenting, I know kids who's parents are attentive and present for everything and still they act like hood rats. It can't be the TV shows because I watched TV too and I'm not a thief, rapist or murder. Bitter and more than slightly jaded sure but that's it. This is why I have flat out refused to work outside the home until my kids are grown and out of college. Sure I might be wasting a good chunk of my life, and the financial strain gets to be a bit much from time to time but it is a sacrifice I'm willing to make to raise decent productive citizens of the world. I don't know what else I can do...

$2,000 a month, that's a helluva whack of rent. Maybe worth it before but now they've let the lowlifes in they'll turn into a slum, I've seen this many times.

Which is why as soon as the weather breaks I'll be moving -_- 2k + insurance + parking permit/mo + utilities + + + + it adds up quick! And now we have trash moving in.... very sad I loved it here too. When we lived in Sacramanto the same thing happened I found a gr8 complex nice and quiet and clean, Sec 8 started being allowed in and within a year crime had shot through the roof; it's now a nasty slum like the rest of the town.

I don't mind letting in the people whom use the program the right way, it's the bums and criminals who abuse the system that ruin everything. My mom was on Sec 8 when she and my dad seperated, she worked hard and eventually she had saved enough to buy a little house and we moved. THAT is how it is suposed to work. It was never meant to be something that someone lived on for all time. -_-

Can you blame people for not wanting what amounts to human garbage to move in? Sure a few of them are decent folks who just need a hand up, but by far the majority of them are useless wastes of oxygen.
I think that in order to move into a place even with Sec 8 they should have to go through the same security screening process that I did, that means a credit check and an extensive background investigation. Why should the rules be different for them??? I had to produce 3 forms of ID for everyone living in the apartment, they checked our credit going all the way back to when I turned 18 and hubby entered the country, They pulled our criminal histories, checked our work references, and even called the five contacts that were required on the application. But for the other type of renters, they just fill out the sec 8 form and call it a day... I don't get that.

Can you blame people for not wanting what amounts to human garbage to move in? Absolutely not! It costs a small fortune to get into a reasonably nice neighbourhood these days, and I don't think it's fair that it can be compromised in this way. I recall when a co-op moved into the last neighbourhood I lived in, the residents, including myself, were very much against it. We knew our property values would plummet. I believe in looking after those less fortunate, but allowing them to move into affluent areas is not the way to go. Why not build affordable housing for the needy, in less classy parts of town?
