Is this how it works? You can look for a publisher before you've even finished writing the book? No wonder the industry is in trouble, if writers get advances and then don't finish the book!!

It takes so long to get a response from publishers that I can see why authors do this. The wisdom being that you send them a synopsis and first chapter and by the time you've finished the rest of the novel, you should have heard back. If you complete the novel before submitting, you're likely to be sitting around twiddling your thumbs for up to a year.
