It's just a ruse to get a load of free publicity.

The owner claims he haven't "heard" of Hitler. but if that is so, then why is there a swastika as the dot of the "I"?

@ Lilly, this was in India if I'm not mistaken, right? If that's the case, why wouldn't there be a Swastika somewhere on the shop? Hindus have been using the Swastika for thousands of years before Hitler was born and it is still widely used in India as an auspicious symbol. I went to Fiji recently and many Indian shops sell golden Swastikas (as worship symbols) and some even have it on their shop sign.
Swastika, which is Sanskrit, can be roughly translated to "Well being" or "that which is associated with well being" if you were translating it literally.
I got a cousin named Swastika for this reason (though, we call her by her nickname to avoid the negative connotations associated with it in our country. Damn Hitler!)
That being said, who the hell doesn't know Adolph Hitler!

Good point, Bubblegum. We tend to forget that the swastika was in use, as a positive symbol, long before the Nazi's adopted it. However, in this present case, since it was inserted right into the store's name (Hitler) I'd doubt it was done innocently. But either way, the store's owner has got a ton of free publicity as a result, and I'll wager sales reflect that. I think its about time that all the obsessing over the events of the Second World War ends, and if someone wants to name his store Hitler, complete with a swastika then it's his own business. We all know that Hitler was a deranged and evil man, but then so were many others, including Stalin, Pol Pot, and Saddam Hussein. It's time to get a little perspective on recent history.

there's a difference between the actual swastika (used by Hindus) and the Nazi swastika. you'll notice that Hitler used the swastika upside down. The swastika on the store is upside down. henceforth its a Nazi swastika.
If the name actually offends anybody I think you should rather ignore it than bring in such hype.
anyway, this gives me an Idea...why don't we open something like this and call it, lets see...Mussolini's Coffee shop.. It can be an actual place where writers can meet. ;D ;D

good point about the swastika, Guy. There is no way that this store owner didn't know exactly what he was doing.

Ahh, yes, I couldn't quite see the Swastika on the bloke's store in the photo. Well, if that's the case, then yeah, what a douche. Good publicity stunt, though.
Hmm. Mussolini's Coffee shop. Where they could serve Stalin's special soup of the day and perhaps Mao's catch of the day?
