This is becoming a dinosaur. The pony express served its purpose, and so has the post office. You cannot continue to throw money away. Technology is a reality. I know people want 6 day delivery, and small town offices. But, the inevitable is approaching and people need to deal with it. It shouldn't be such a political fight to accept that drastic changes need to be made. apnews.myway.com/article/20120730/DA0BDV2O2.html

The Internet, telephones and affordable courier services have all but finished the Post Office. Their ridiculously high union wages haven't helped either. Then in Canada, at least, there are the endless strikes for even more money.
The overinflated cost of mail delivery has been passed along to the consumer, in the escalating price of postage. In Canada, postage for small packages is now so high, that you're almost better off just sending it by courier, and that way you're sure it will arrive on time.
I think they should have cut back from daily delivery ages ago. A couple of times a week would probably be adequate these days. With bank statements, and utility bill statements etc. now available on-line, most people probably don't get more than a few pieces of mail per month anyway.
Of course, there hasn't been door-to-door delivery in new subdivisions for ages, just the communal boxes at the end of the road.
