How difficult is formatting for Kindle?

I'm swaying towards Kindle, how difficult is the formatting and cover design?

If you have time to mess around with it a bit you should do okay. Amazon have some good tutorials.

Or you can hire someone to do it at a low cost.

If you're using a Mac, sometimes you have to wing it, but I managed to publish three novels on Kindle and I use a Mac. Most of their tutorials are written for Windows. It's not an experience for the faint of heart.

Formatting for Smashwords is much more difficult. Why else would they recommend their free 90 page formatting guide? Happy reading, not!

I didn't find Smashwords formating too bad. Of course I'd already published on Kindle multiple times.

I tried finding floormats for mine, it was nearly impossible.

I tried some from a Ford Edge SUV, but even cut down they didn't fit right--and I know cutting.

Ditto for the floormats out of an old E-Type Jaguar. They were the right color and it broke my heart when had to toss them out.

I finally settled on the floormats from a 1962 VW Micro-Bus. I tell everyone that the "VW" stands for both "virtual and wired."

Forget the floormats, just use Saran Wrap like my Aunt Clara does.

I've just been informed that the thread is about "formatting." From what I understand it means something about setting parameters for some computing devices. Yikes, who knew.
