I hate the new ones. The keys are too flat and close together, so you end up hitting the wrong damned keys. Why, oh why, can't they just leave well enough alone? Change, it seems, is now regarded as an improvement, regardless of how unnecessary and awful it is.

Yeah....I bought an older style keyboard...kind of higher profile....for my laptop (which is where I do most of my writing) and I like it so much better than the one on my desktop too.
Laptop keyboards are only good for little to moderate usage.

I agree, Richard, the laptops, netbooks etc. are not designed for any serious typing. But this is a desk top I'm talking about. The keyboard is, basically, just a piece of junk. The keys are flat, with a rough surface and clustered together. This makes it impossible to touch type. It has no wrist rest. And being in Canada, all the keyboards must now be bilingual. So this one is all cluttered up with French symbols in a bright blue. Yep, it looks like it has a nasty rash.
So I ditched it fast, and invested in another one. However, although the replacement has its bilingual capabilities hidden, and has a wrist rest, it still has the clustered together flat rough surface keys. So, I dumped it too and reverted to my old keyboard with the help of a USB to PS/2 adapter.
I luv it! To think I took it for granted for so long. Clearly defined keys, raised not flat, spaced well apart from each other, smooth and pleasant to the touch, and a good wrist rest. What not to like? I'm actually enjoying typing again. But the sad part is you can't buy a new keyboard like this anymore.
I realise that it does take time -- a breaking-in period -- to get used to new things. And I allowed for this. However, after struggling with these horrible new keyboards for several months, I finally decided it was time to throw in the towel.

What do you expect since they're all cranked out off shore. Is anything actually made in the US any more??

I picked up a piece of Silverware that said "Australian Silverware......made in China" So no, everyone is getting things from everywhere else! I don't mind my laptop keyboard, but that's because I learnt to type on one in school, so I'm used to it.
