Are they too rigid? Check out any bestseller and you're almost guaranteed to find POVs mixed up and quite a bit of telling as opposed to showing.

Agree! These days I can't read a book without seeing all the slips from these or that rules in each paragraph (where are the times I could just read and enjoy? lol)

Or, the plot is not believable like in the paperback novel I bought recently. Still I only paid 5 bucks for it.

I see to big a flaw, I put it down. It's not that I read; I'm like this in general. Sometimes I put mistakes in as an obvious point. It can make for good reading, but it's hard to get it right

I see to big a flaw, I put it down. So do I. It suspends the disbelief needed to get deep in a story.

Of course the rules were meant to be broken. If everyone followed the rules, we'd have one book told over and over again. No one wants that. Writing is about being different and breaking as many rules as you can!

Writing can change perspectives and fashion: one of the well oiled cogs of society
Complicated communication today is simplicity tomorrow. A man in a 70 million pound mansion can commit suicide from having everything. 'What is the point of living?' he might say?
You have to get a life, and what better life to have in the freedom of writing. It is a purpose!
The man with nothing wants for everything, but he doesn't realise he is the richest man in the world.
We are born as a race to live simply and with trust of each other. Trust could be the meaning of life for us to be simple and have everything without having to aspire.

I read somewhere once that you need to know all of the rules before you are allowed to break them when it comes to being a new writer trying to get published. I don't know though. Has anyone ever heard of metafiction? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metafiction To me it sounds like all of the rules are thrown out as a rule...or may I should actually read the definition...

If a writer gets too hung up about the mechanics it will dry up the creative juices.
