I finally get to see it in print. It's my first novel, but there will be many more--that's for sure. Jennifer Dickerman, an Arizona real estate agent trying to make it on her own, is given the chance of a lifetime when William Maddock, an old man in the last days of his life, contacts her to buy his family's multimillion-dollar winery near Sonoita. For a mere one hundred thousand dollars, Eternity Vineyards is all hers-but on one condition: She can never resell it. She must give her word to keep it and become its new caretaker. Little does the old man know that Jennifer has no intention of keeping her word once he's off the property, but little does Jennifer know that Maddock hasn't told her everything about the place, especially its gruesome purpose and the demonic winemaker who wants to fire the vineyard back into production in her absence. It will take the ghost of a lonely twelve-year-old girl, bound to the estate by her own guilty secrets, to convince Jennifer to honor her promise and prevent the Satanic bloodbath that is about to begin--again. Thanks Avery and Lily.
This is my starting point. I figure I have twenty years left to try to make it work. I've wanted to be a horror novelist all my life it seems, or at least since I was seventeen. That was thirty years ago. The way I see it, this is my shot.
I'm going to keep writing books. I'm working on my second novel now. And if my life goes by and I never become "successful" (whatever that means anymore), then I can accept that, but at least I will have taken a shot. If I get my shot and go out swinging, then I can live with that, you know?
At least the publishing world is turning in favor of the independent publisher. It used to be if the big six didn't publish you, your manuscript just sat in a drawer. I suppose Kindle changed all that in 2007.
