Hello, I am writing a travelogue where for some of the chapters I relate inter family dialogue from trips taken by my siblings and myself. I verbally asked for permission from each sibling to be able to quote them. However, one sibling is resisting. The book is intended to be humourous and poke fun at each of us. My sibling hasn't read it, except for one or two lines. What do I do in this case. Bill Bryson, in A Walk in the Woods, has a disclaimer saying fake names are used to protect privacy. Do I do this and not use my sibling's real name? Do I claim that part as fiction? Do I delete it altogether, which is a major chunk. Any ideas or experience in dealing with this kind of situation would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd always advise using pseudonyms in a case like this. That way it protects everyone's privacy and doesn't leave you open to lawsuits.

I can understand someone not wanting to have his real name used, but not why he would give his ok to do this and then welsh out at the last minute, not cool. Yarndog you have no choice use fake names.

You need to add this disclaimer: Names have been changed to protect the guilty. ;D
