Day Fourteen - Does it matter anymore?

Okay, here is day 14, I might just go to 15 and be done. Since I feel I'm playing alone. Kind of lost its fun! I literally just wrote this so please forgive me! I'm tired and it's not my best.

Cleaning Out My Closet

That's a pretty dress Mommy, why are you getting rid of it?
I love how she can't see past the faded floral print and dated seams.
Because this one's old-fashioned, sweetheart. I explain. I got a new pretty one.
What's old fashioned? She asks.
Well, things change and there's always something new, something better.
Okay. She accepts my basic fashion lesson
What about this sweater? It's my favorite. She holds it close like a blanket.
A Christmas sweater given to me by my aunt, worn only once to please her. But my little girl loves the snowman and his fuzzy scarf hanging off, and she loves the Christmas tree with glittery sequins for ornaments.
I know baby girl, but it's missing some buttons, and see there's a hole in it. I wiggle my finger through, she giggles then frowns.
I'll get a new Christmas sweater, okay? This one's old.
Hopefully she'll forget.
Mommy, why are you throwing those shoes away?
Because they're old too, I can't wear them anymore. See how scuffed they are?
And that jacket, she asks, you don't need that because it's old?
Yes, it's old and dirty and frayed along the edges so I'm getting rid of it.
I'm please that she's understanding.
Mommy, are you going to throw Grandmother away, get rid of her?
I'm puzzled. Honey, of course not. Why would I do that?
Because she's old.

Well this is embarrassing. I'm wearing that exact same sweater right now!

You've impressed me with some of your earlier work. For this piece I'll give you milk and cookies.

Even though it's not your best It still has merit. You have a voice when you write that is distinctly yours and that is a talent you can be proud of.

This isn't bad. Its just a little faded like your flora print dress.

pariah - thanks for reading this, I know it's terrible! LOL And thanks for finding my voice in there somewhere. I think if I had more time (and I probably will take it) to develop this idea it could be something interesting. I remember first telling my kids "that's old, throw it away." And then thinking, no wonder old people aren't respected. Oh well, just an idea. My faded floral dress will revamped!

zoe - Martin suggested that we all post a poem/prose everyday for a month. I agreed and he dropped out on day eight! Bad Martin, anyway, this was my day fourteen. Thinking I might quit and declare myself the winner. thanks for reading!

A daily writing challenge can be tough. You are doing an excellent job and you were the winner when you showed us you had cookies by stepping up on day 1.

It's a much loftier goal than trying not to drool in public...oh how I strive!

Amy, I think in this pace you would be a declared the winner anyway.
Mah, I wish I had your talent and your ability to develop any subject and your productivity. I envy you!!!
I can work diligently on a full length novel, every day for months, but I can't gather enough determination to work on a different subject/setting every day even if my life would depend on it ;-) (I had this problem when attending a creative writing class few years ago, when we were required to present a short story once a week. And you are talking to me about day to day???!!!!!!!!!! )

Zoe - you are too kind to me, I don't deserve it LOL I'm a little burned out and the last couple of days, I've had no time to write, there's someone always close by that needs me and pulls me away. So it's not even worth trying. You know? But thanks so much for your compliments, they are so appreciated and will push me forward today! Maybe I'll make time......
