OK so I have solved the money issues at least short term! I finalized the plans earlier this week after talking to my friends who are Doctors. I signed up for a vo-tech school to get my national certification in phlebotomy. I will use this to seek employment in a hospital, once there I plan to take advantage of tuition reimbursement. So step one starts Feb 6. The class is 3 months long, then I have to study my rear off to prepare for the test. Once I have my certification I will decide if I move to New Mexico right away or stay in DC and work until Siva has himself set up in a long term project. ( this to me seems the smart thing to do he however disagrees.) We'll work that out soon enough. Any how the tuition reimbursement program will pay for step two. That means getting my certification as a surgical technician. I can't tell you how excited I am about that step. from there I will ( If I have not already) Move to New Mexico and enroll in the Uni. I have about a year and a half to figure out which path I want to take from there. Either Work on getting my LPN then move on to RN with additional training in the OR. Or, I can get my RN and and then get my certification as a Nurse Anesthetist. The last option would be to get my Masters as a Radiology Assistant. If I do this last one I would continue on and enter Medical School where I would get my MD and sub spec as a Radiologist. My Dr friends think that this last one would be best given my disdain for large groups of people. However they have also said it is very boring, and that I might enjoy RN-A better. I have some time to decide yet which is great because I don't want to make any hasty decisions.

Well things change fast round here...
I had my first class yesterday and not on the 6Th. The school called to let me know they changed the start date.
Which meant not having the time to study ahead but oh well... day ones work consists of 5 chapters. Legal and ethical issues, oversight of the field for both the schools and the filed its self. Hygiene, and a ton of other information.
Now don't miss understand me here I knew before I started that this was an accelerated curriculum but, Flip Me Over and call me Daisy! I worked in this profession once before, this is all review work to me. What about someone who is new? How on earth would they manage to keep up? On the plus side with the fast pace and the higher than normal standards the teacher has set 80% is passing here rather than the normal 70-75% she is going to weed out the vast majority of the slow to catch on people. Usually this is a good thing, however this is a lot of information, even having worked in the field previously I think it's a bit much. Sure you weed out the lame ducks but, if there is anyone in the class who has a learning disability they will be lost with little hope of catching up.
We shall see how it works out in the end I guess.

OK tomorrow I have class, I managed to get all 5 chapters done, I did the on line worksheets the first time after just reading everything over just to see how I would do. I got a 94% After some study time I improved that to a 96% But I'm still not happy! I want 100% I know I sound silly but I have always been top of any class I took, save for that international cooking class, which I took for fun. That was a hot mess but, that is not the point. If I can't get 99-100% I'm going to be mad at myself. Like really really freaking mad. So I have all day to day to hammer this material until I know it inside out and back again. Hopefully I will get it right.

WHOOT I re-took the on line worksheets and got a 98.87% today! Nice, now if only I could remember how to spell some of the medical terms the first time it would be 100%. Tomorrow... LOL.

A newbie post here. BL have you given forensics or mortuary science any consideration. Those are fields with introductory classroom studies, however most of the work is done hands-on, so you are getting a salary while you learn. Check the requirements as they vary from state to state. Oh and BTW, I am an avid collector of cookie jars. I have 82 of them displayed around the kitchen....and not a single cookie in any of them. Thanks for letting me in on your story.

I like cookie jars too. They're a great collector's item. I have just two: a cute baby elephant wearing a yellow hat, which doubles as a lid. And a really nice San Francisco style house -- the roof is the lid -- that I bought in Portland, Oregon. And like Ron, I've never used them to store cookies. I keep old receipts in the elephant, and envelopes in the house. www.news-press.com/article/20120126/LIFESTYLES/301260032/Crazy-cookie-jars

Cool, I have a jar that we store my baked goods in. It's an old pickle jar, you know the really big fat ones that a small child could fit in! Great for brownies and other num num's. I thought it was ugly so I did like a collage of family pics all over it and the hit it with some shellac (sp?) As for my career path, Originally I was thinking about DNA analysis, however there is no program for just doing that... You have to do a CJ degree then go and get other degrees to round it out. So I decided to look back into health care, or Law. A law degree does not a good pay check make. That and i have 0 interest in letting crooks off the hook. I could not sleep with my self which leaves being a ADA or something as such, getting paid nearly nothing and having more cases than you can fully prepare for. Naa... again not something I would be happy with. That left health care, I worked as a CENA for a long time and quite because A) I don't play politics well, and B) it was the most depressing line of work I had ever seen. So I said IF I was going to go back I was going back more near the top of the totem pole. Less BS at the top. Getting a masters as a radiologists' assistant is a good way to start. Job openings all over the country, pay is ava of 45$/hr. And It's easy!!! Would leave me time to get my MD and sub spec in radiology. Over all not a bad deal, but since things are so costly we have to take baby steps. I don't mind that too much. But, I will look into what you suggest jut in case I decide to change my mind TYVM

Hmm another day another/week has flown by, Have an exam tomorrow and my mid term on Thursday.
Time is flying by so quickly it's hard to even think about.
I have started packing for when I move to NM for the next leg of my education. Finally got the measurements for the room I will be calling home for the next few years. 10x10. Tight right? Well A tight fit requires some out of the box thinking on my part. I have stuff lots of it! And tbh I don't feel like giving up any of it.
So how would I go about fitting a desk, queen sized bed, book case, fish tanks dresser and seating into a 10x10 room?
I have a friend who is a carpenter, I had looked on-line for Dorm Room solutions and seen these wild Loft beds. PERFECT! So my Dad and Grandpa are going to build me one It will have a bookshelf at one end, a towel rack and clothing bar, a small shelf where I can keep my alarm clock and glasses, a desk at the other end, and I found this super cute hanging chair thingamajig so I can sit and watch TV all of this will be within the bed! There will even be enough space left in the room for ALL my tanks! I have 3 of them (2) 10 gals and (1) 20 gal.
My friend sent me the plans and since I'm totally spastic he sent along plans for a small staircase that will double as a dresser so no ladder climbing for me! ;D Prolly a good thing; I fall off our lil step stool all the time. :/
Anyhow that's the latest update I hope this finds everyone well! OH and a quick welcome to the space to all the new people that have joined up recently. I'll try to find time to post to you one by one tomorrow.
Hugs, ~BL~
PS. Remind me to tell you about the weekend from hell soon!

Well my last class is Tuesday! Final test and all that jazz... Gotta say it was a lot easier than I thought it would be but at the same time it was a lot harder than it first looked. Can't wait to be back into the swing of things around here. Miss you all. Hugs, ~BL~
