Lily, thank you so much for the link! I wasn't on AW for ages. I really want to thank you - this forum was created at a perfect timing for me at Smashwords he recommends not to use any page breaks at all. As you said I had to get read of all the numbers and headers and footers and what not (up to a few days back I didn't know those terms were existed at all, lol). I guess I would better open a separate thread

I just got my first Kindle - actually waiting for it in the mail. Should be here today. And I was thinking the same thing some of you have said: I think the time has come to rethink e-books and self-publishing. It does not only not have the stigma anymore that it had just a few years ago, I think it is working on overtaking even the printed book market. Just think: all those long hours and weeks spent on writing just the right.....what was that thing called again....QUERY LETTERS? Those might be a thing of the past!! ;D

You just had to bring it up, aren't you?!!! lol HATE QL's and don't want to hear a word "agent" anymore, even if I'll be looking for a real estate lol. That's what I kept thinking (and told Stan). I'm afraid I'll go on believing in myself so much I'll keep trying to find an agent just to discover that when it happens there will be no print anymore

I've never had any time for agents. I've had two of them and didn't like either one. Who needs a middle man? It makes more sense to go directly to the organ grinder and bypass the monkey. (LOL)

Okay, I have to admit, I now prefer Smashwords to Kindle! There is no delay in publishing. As soon as you make the change, voila, it appears on their site. How sweet it is. :-)

I thought the agent was an un-by-passable channel

I am going to check out both, thank you! Well, the Kindle arrived in the mail, and it is all I wanted it to be. Well, almost. I wish it could be backlighted, but I think I read that does not go with the print which allowes me to read outside? So since I had to chose, I opted for reading outdoors. I know that is something I am going to want. I can always turn up the light in the room, lol. I wish I could e-publish my book right now!! But since its conception I have thought about it a lot, and decided it needs to be totally re-done. Actually, it will be a different book when I am done. But that is better than publishing something just for 'publishings sake' and then not being happy with it, right? Okaaay, back to the drawing board.

When I checked in the preview panel on my Bookshelf, the formatting looked fine. HOWEVER, when I clicked on the book displayed on the Amazon site, where it invites you to look inside, the first part was all out of line. Even the title was jumbled. Grrrr..... So I advise anyone with a book on Kindle to check this out. It seems that previewing it after uploading the book is not all that reliable.

No Julieh, I tried Mobipocket, but for some reason it didn't work for me. I browsed the Kindle forums, and it seems others have difficulties with it too. In any case, I fixed up the problem and it's now looking good -- or what passes as such on Kindle. ;D
