mythicscribes.com/forums/Nice people from what I see thus far, lots of info on fantasy type set ups etc... seems a lot of them are into D&D but that can be overlooked.

Although Absolute Write has a lot of helpful resources the moderation is such that I've never had a membership there. It's very polarised in its "my way or the highway" type of thinking, and tends to be annoyingly pedantic over trivialities. I'm also uncomforable at the way it goes after certain publishers and agents it deems "scammers." This is much more than just a simple warning to be cautious, it runs to hundreds of pages of sheer vitriol.
The staggering amount of members who are "banned" from AW speaks volumes in itself. I prefer a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, where there's room for all opinions. Also, the site is just too large to even be able to find what you're looking for half the time. A smaller forum has the advantage of being more personalised and less intimidating.
Cheers
:-)

I used to be a member at AW but the site politics drove me away. If you don't suck up to the big cheese you're not welcome. Old cheese is mouldy and rancid, who needs it? ;D

I like the idea of being able to delete posts and our account if we so wish. We could have deactivitated this ability, as most forums have done, but we chose not to. We wouldn't want to hold onto members who want to leave. You cannot delete your account from Writers Net, and I don't believe you can from Absolute Write either. If anyone knows for sure, please let us know.

Sorry Dana, I've had to remove the name of the forum due to legal reasons. But I feel so badly about how you were mistreated. Will you PM me, please.

We've decided to remove the posts about this issue over to our blog, which we've enabled for comments. It can be discussed there. We very much want to keep this forum a friendly place, focused on the business of writing, and free of all the hostilities and malicious gossip that ruin other sites. We advise Dana to seek legal advice on the issue. Some of our members are thoroughly conversant with the background of those involved and will gladly help all they can. writersinternetcafe.blogspot.com/

Writers forums seem to be prone to nastiness over an above what you'd expect elsewhere. Anybody else noticed that? Maybe its the frustration of the rejections, who knows?

Have you ever participated in a religious or political forum? Wow, they get nasty and nothing worthwhile ever comes out of it. But I think you have a point about rejection. After all, writers offer their originality of self. When it is not accepted as eagerly as it was offered, I would think it has an effect. Not taking oneself too seriously helps with rejection.

Not taking oneself too seriously helps with rejection. Yes, and remembering it's just that particular story they're rejecting and not you helps. It's also not always because they think it isn't good. For instance, I once had a story rejected (which they liked) because they'd recently published one that was too similar. Also, unless the writing is just awful, what is good and what isn't is largely subjective.
