Good one lily. Many years ago I took the Writers Digest Writing course. They assigned me to an instructor who lived on a ranch in the Midwest. The first thing he told me… “Take the craft of writing seriously.” I did. And still do. He wasn’t the best writer on two feet, but he sure was a great teacher. He paid cash for his 20 acre ranch out of the advance from his first book. That got my attention when he said, “Take the craft of writing seriously.” Those seven rules are Gold…hold tight to them. I don't know if they still have the course, but if they do...jump on it.

A writer certainly needs dedication and determination.

A writer certainly needs dedication and determination. A very thick skin helps too.

Yep, a think skin certainly helps. Criticism has only improved my craft.
Still got a long way to go, though.

A long, long time ago, a friend, who was not a writer nor an avid reader (he read to pass the time on his hour-long train journeys to and from work) told me, after he read a piece of my work, to forget about writing, but he wouldn't say why (probably too embrassed) and looking back I can understand his hesitance. Living in Germany didn't help, all my friends were German, so I decided to find out how to write properly. I'm still looking:)
