Hi guys! I've been inactive on this site for a long time. Glad I'm back! ^_^ So anyway my editing process is like so: After writing my first draft I let the piece sit for one or two weeks depending on how impatient I am. In editing I use a sentence variety chart. Learned it in high school. Just a chart for the first word, verbs, and number of words in a sentence. I find it insanely helpful at times. I look it over and see if I have a lot of sentences that are too long and such. If I want to make something stand out I'll put it in a short sentence after a long sentence but not always. I get my voice recorder and read my piece aloud. When I play it back it helps with rhythm and flow. I ask the standard questions of my characters, getting to know them. I ask about the purpose of the piece, why I'm doing it, what readers will get out of it. Now I'm really interested in what others do to edit, because I know I could always use more tips.
