Don't rule out those who want to pin guilt on the victim asking what she was wearing?

I'm just going to say how I feel, ( and you don't have to agree with me. because well it is my personal thoughts on the subject, but) I think child molesters, wife beaters and rapist should be executed the moment the trial ends, I'd even be open to the return of public lynchings if it helped stem the flow of insanity that we are seeing.

BlueLotus, I wouldn't want to be that harsh but for sure the punishment has to be more strict. More importantly I want people to be educated about rape, to know that it's only preventable by not raping, to know that no means no and all that. hope society becomes more open to talk about and offer solutions to the issue of rape.

The death of this girl could spark widespread anarchy in India, and no wonder. I can't even begin to imagine what her family must be going through. I've always been opposed to the death penalty, mainly because an innocent person might be executed, and I really do believe that killing -- unless in self defence -- is wrong. However, in a case like this it seems like it's the only form of real justice. I also believe that if you're not going to have the death penalty, then the sentence should be life in prison for first degree murder, with no chance of parole ---- EVER! And I agree with BL. We need to see a return to speedier trials and sentences carried out in a timely manner. As it stands now it's ridiculous. Justice has to at least appear to be done. There has to be some sort of deterrent in the form of stricter sentences. For instance, someone who gets drunk and then drives and kills someone should have their license revoked for life and spend at least 10 years in jail. But that's not what happened recently to a woman who was drunk when she drove a vehicle that killed a motorcyclist. She was sentenced to --- now wait for it, you are not going to believe this --- ONE DAY IN JAIL! www.theprovince.com/news/Crown+appeals+sentence+drunken+driver+killed+Vancouver+Island/7735330/story.html

Yeah justice is a joke in most places. I'm going to India the second week of Feb, I'll be gone 6 weeks, where I plan to stay a week in Delhi, and I do fully plan on participating in some of the protests. Although I'll stick to quiet harmless forms of protest think "Gandhi." I'm sorry that I seem harsh, but really we must do something to bring about a major change in things. Children can't even play in their own front yards for fear of being abducted by some creep with a penchant for little kids, can't take a bus in peace, or walk about town. We are failing as a society on more than one level, jails are overcrowded so they let the ones out that seem less of a risk, that means the guy who molested your child could be out in less than a year to hurt another kid! I'm sorry but I won't budge, when it comes to my family and my own personal safety when threatened my gun does the talking for me. Thankfully I have only had to point it once, the guy seen the barrel pointed square between his eyes and he tucked tail and ran away like the pathetic punk that he is.
I hope that having stared down my barrel helped him see the light, and forgo breaking and entering into homes he does not belong. But when you break out MY window and start crawling through you had better hope I'm not home... because I'll give you exactly 3 seconds, or to the count of three as it were, to turn around before I pull that trigger.

When I was a kid I had a bus pass (My dad worked for the transit company) and I set out to travel the full route on every bus, right to the end of the line. It was quite an adventure. I used to wander around by myself, (I was always a loner) ;D all over the place, often in quite lonely places, like the Pentland Hills, and late in the evening after seeing a movie. This was in Edinburgh, and at that time it was virtually crime free. Now it is known as the "Drug Capital of Europe," and crime has sky-rocketed accordingly. Very sad. We certainly enjoyed a freedom then that kids today are being denied.

I know right, I remember our mother yelling "Ifin' Y'all wanna rough house that that S*&^% outside!" and out we would go, and when the street lights popped on we would wander in covered in dirt and happy as a bed bug in fresh sheets. I would not let my kid outside alone now if my life depended on it. I think he was 9 or 10 before I'd let him more than 50 feet from me... You just CAN'T be too careful anymore. My grandpa tells me stories about walking 3 miles to school by himself "barefoot and in the snow" I think that line is a prerequisite, but I digress, what I tell my kids is "When I was a kid we would ride our bikes down dirt roads for hours on end... and never once worried. But you kids have got the short end of things. I'm sorry for that." -_-

After the city, it was a huge novelty, and I used to tramp through the fields by myself picking blackberries, and down winding lanes to sit by the Thames. There was a friendly supportive atmosphere in those days, and if you ran into difficulty, (I got lost a couple of times,) ;D there was always someone to help and steer you in the right direction. If you tell this sort of thing to people today, they think you're absolutely crackers or just making it up!!
