Now you'll have to let us know if that generated any sales over the next few weeks.

Will do, Richard. Even now my other titles are selling a few more copies than usual.

Update: The book that was free is now selling more copies than before. Don't know quite what triggers that, but I'm certainly not complaining. ;D Whereas the book that is free now, has only seen some 200 downloads in 4 days. Strange how it all works.

Update: The second free book offer ends at midnight tonight, and so far it has only had 269 downloads. This is telling me something though: At least in this case, a book of short stories is 4 times more popular than a full length novel! I guess people who are short on time want something shorter to read. Makes sense. Sales continue to increase on all titles, (I have 4 books on Kindle) with the book of short stories, doing the best. I'm offering a third title free starting at midnight. It's a full length novel, so it'll be interesting to see how well it does as compared to the other two. This is fun. I'll keep you posted.

Good to hear it is driving attention for your other books.
There are more than 6 billion people on the planet. Giving away a few hundred books isn't going to hurt sales in any way.

435 -- Wow, it's even doing better than the first one. And it's only been available free for about 36 hours.

I would have thought this type of promotion would increase traffic to my website, but it hasn't.

668. It's slowed down a bit. I only put this one on for 4 days, so it's over at midnight tonight.

Update: The book that was free is now selling more copies than before. Don't know quite what triggers that, but I'm certainly not complaining. ;D To answer my own question: I did a little research and realised that if you enable Digital Rights Management, and I did, then those who downloaded the book when it was free, cannot send it around to others. So the increase in sales is due to word-of-mouth advertising, which is the very best kind.
