I use the yWriter program. Developed by Simon Haynes in Australia. Its free or you can make a donation. I love it! I used it for my 1st novel (The Clashes of Tarn) and I'm presently working my second on the yWriter also.
Just type "yWriter" in a good search engine and download it free. Good luck ;D

What, exactly, does this program do for you? Someone once told me John Grisham used a program for his first novel, A Time to Kill. I never understood what a program could do for you. I use MS Word.

These is a dark forest in northern Germany. Walk alone there at midnight when the moon is full. A little Elf in short leather pants, and a plum of a feather in his bonnet…will give you a magic pill…take this before the sun peaks above the horizon…and you will become a great writer.
If you are afraid of the dark, you can get Sol Steins book… Sol Stein on writing. There is no better, nor is there a program that will make you a good writer. There are programs that make writing easer such as word. There is no magic pill, or program to improve talent. The name of that path is…hard study. It’s a narrow path taken by few.

Aw if only this were true.

I enjoy yWriter too. I'm using it for the first time, but it helps me stay much more organized than word documents. Plus it is all in one place, so I don't need to have a million word documents full of notes and stuff. It has helped me improve a lot of various parts of the novel I am writing right now.

I don't use a novel writing program, but since my punctuation is appalling I have found that Ginger works very well for what I need. It makes my friend less unhappy because she acts as my editor atm and gets really tired of having to fix commas. Ginger solved that and a few other issues I was having as well, which was a nice bonus for me. However, learning the basics of good English is always best.
